Samskip remains in full control with Ubidata’s container, rail and intermodal track and trace system

    14 March 2016

Samskip organises multimodal transport solutions for customers from various industries. In order to achieve optimal service, it is important that transhipment between the various transport modes happens as efficiently as possible.

In full control, all the way
Thanks to Ubidata’s container, rail and intermodal track and trace solution, Samskip manages a tighter grip on the lead times of rail transport, allowing the logistics provider to better inform its customers about the delivery of their goods.

“This one system gives us insight into the location of a wagon set which can be comprised of up to nineteen wagons. This is information which enables us to efficiently plan subsequent road transport to the final destination. The geolocation data from the trucks’ GPS systems, coupled with the information received from UBIWagon, allows us to better anticipate and guarantee a faster service to our customers. Previously, we very much depended on wagon location notifications from the traction provider. Disposing of this information in-house now enables us to intervene more rapidly if necessary and to proactively notify our customers of any delays," claims Tim van der Roest, Samskip fleet manager.

Predefined settings notify the planners of certain defects via email. “And thanks to the integration with our TMS (Transportation Management System), planners can see at a glance where the wagons are located,” adds Tim Van der Roest.

    Reliable technology
Another important consideration for Samskip was battery life. "The system can be used without having to worry about the power supply for a long time," says Tim van der Roest. "With Ubidata’s solution, we have an efficient tool that makes our operational processes more transparent and helps us manage them better," concludes Tim van der Roest.

Tachograph and CANBUS monitoring ensure road safety
It is not only delays that concern Samskip, driver safety is paramount. With Ubidata’s tachograph and CANBUS monitoring, Samskip can ensure that their drivers take appropriate rest and drive at suitable speeds.

With its container, rail and intermodal track and trace solution Ubidata guarantees:
    • Telematics and mobile logistics to support efficiency
    • Precise and reliable location data
    • More transparent operations
    • Flexible alerts
    • Long battery life

Delhaize doubles their traceability with Ubidata’s trailer track and trace solution

    13 June 2016

Delhaize tracks deliveries and fleet with Ubidata
To be able to offer consumers a comprehensive, ultra-fresh range, Delhaize’s logistics chain needs to be transparent and flexible. Delhaize uses ubidata’s trailer track and trace solution for real-time monitoring of store deliveries as well as the return process of pallets, roll containers and other packaging to the distribution center.

The drivers use their PDA to log onto the Ubidata system so they can sign in and receive a transport order. All goods are scanned on delivery, while any returning pallets and packaging are registered as well. This allows for real-time tracking of goods delivery from the distribution center to the store, and gives the retailer conclusive proof of delivery (POD). With Delhaize now possessing a clear view of the exact delivery times, it can see at a glance whether planning projections and service levels have been respected.

A clear view of deliveries and trailers
Ubidata’s trailer track and trace system allows Delhaize to track all of its 700 trailers at any time. The solution also uses temperature and cold chain telematics to register the temperature on fresh food transports, the fuel level and various other technical parameters of the cooling units, as well as any opening of the trailer doors. To allow drivers to perform their tasks – and night-time deliveries particularly – in safe conditions, Ubidata added specific functionality to the system, which now effectively controls the stores’ outdoor lighting.

    Time and efficiency gains
All data registered about the transports is easily accessible via three web applications using Ubidata’s telematics and mobile logistics functionality. "The system integrates seamlessly with our specific needs. Apart from the benefits offered by real-time monitoring of our deliveries and trailers, the increased transparency in the communication with our transport partners is proving an important plus. The PDA allows us to communicate with our planners and monitor their performance much more efficiently. The solution has enabled us to win an efficiency battle which deliver the goods every day, both literally and figuratively”, concludes Philippe Moine, Transport Planning & Invoicing Manager at Delhaize.

With its trailer track and trace Ubidata guarantee:
    • Real-time tracking of goods and trailers
    • Real-time monitoring of service levels
    • Transparency in the communication with transport partners
    • Proof of delivery
    • Time gains
    • Telematics and mobile logistics in a flexible and user friendly software
    • Integration with WMS and transport software

Ubidata rail wagon management solution helps voestalpine Railpro with maintenance planning & asset accountability

    9 January 2017

voestalpine Railpro delivers a wide range of railway materials – from rails to sleepers to electronic components – for the management and maintenance of railway infrastructures. As a wagon owner voestalpine Railpro is responsible for the wagons' technical condition but the company often lacks insight into the exact mileage of the wagons rented out to foreign customers. To allow for better traceability and a better planning of the maintenance of those wagons, the company relies on Ubidata’s geolocation system.

Telematics and mobile logistics aid proactive maintenance
By consulting the Ubidata software online, planners know exactly where each wagon is located and which distance it has travelled. Thanks to the built-in geo-fencing functionality voestalpine Railpro receives notifications when a wagon crosses the border of a preset area. During a next phase, voestalpine Railpro wants to link the information generated by Ubidata to the many facets of maintenance planning. As soon as a wagon has reached a preset number of kilometres, the system could generate an automatic defect notification and have it called in for revision.

    Unpowered installation
Battery life was another important factor in voestalpine Railpro’s decision to go the Ubidata route. "With the system being configured the way it is today – at 15-minute data intervals – the batteries should last four to five years", says René Harkema, head of rail transport and wagon park management at voestalpine Railpro.

    A foundation for growth
The transparency offered by Ubidata's container, rail and intermodal track and trace olution is very valuable for voestalpine Railpro. It allows the wagon owner to plan maintenance based on precise mileage data and enables flexible adjustments to maintenance intervals. "Furthermore, the data provide a reliable foundation for contract talks with customers", adds René Harkema.
